Canterbury Field Goal
Monday, Jan. 27, 2003

A football player, big and strong
Took the trip though it was long

He had heard from a few
His biggest dream could come true

His fate was to follow the twisted trail
His own personal Canterbury Tale

But why, you ask, would he venture so far?
He already was a super star

That claim to fame was not enough
He wanted a lot of other stuff

To win the Super Bowl would be the best
And that, my friends, prompted his quest

Which way do I go? the idiot said
Becoming lost was his biggest dread

To the left or the right?
An internal fight

A choice he must make
Oh please, no mistake!

He took a breath that filled his lung
And cautiously he bit his tongue

He gazed at the sky
With a tear in his eye

He looked at the clouds, and also the sun
And back to the place that he had begun

He knew that he must make his way
And that the choice must be made that day

His instinct was to run away
And go to Canterbury another day

But brave and strong
He ventured on

A toss of the coin would determine his fate
Heads or tails? A huge debate

He chose his path and went his way
He traveled for many, many a day

When he got to the very sacred place
There was a smile upon his face

I want to win the Super Bowl.
That is my wish. It is my goal.

In the coming year during his football games
He achieved that road to fame

A Super Bowl title and a ring
Now full of joy, the football player did sing!
